Our gorgeous M70 is for sale. We’ve come to the end of our journey with her, having toured all over Europe and it’s time for her to go to a new home. She is a beautiful bike that runs like a top and is fantastic for a couple to tour the country or simply bop around town in true Indiana Jones fashion. She turns heads everywhere she goes and you’ll never find yourself short of conversation every time you park or even stop at a red light.
The 2012 M70 Anniversary Edition is a limited edition that celebrates the 70th anniversary of the legendary Irbit Motorcycle Factory. Only 30 of these bikes exist and at least 3 of them have been wrecked, so this is a rare find.
She is in excellent mechanical condition. She runs better than new (Urals take a while to fully break in) and we’ve stayed on top of maintenance. We have replaced the engine, transmission, and final drive oil with full synthetic every ~2,500km. There are no mechanical problems anywhere on the rig. A blown inner tube was the only problem we had in the 8,000km that we have owned her.
Cosmetically she is beautiful and in Very Good + condition. You will never fail to take a second glance back at her every time you walk away. There’s nothing like her on the road and no other bike in Ural’s lineup comes close to the look of this particular model. The 70th anniversary edition has a shiny gloss paint job and badging that is no longer available. The engine was blacked out at the factory – big improvement over the standard bare aluminum/steel. She even has a machine gun mount on the sidecar. Compare to the 2017 model to see how much better our rig looks: http://www.imz-ural.com/m70.html
When we were searching for the bike to do our trip, this is the one that caught our eye and we couldn’t pass her up. She is so much better looking than the competition that I immediately hopped on a flight to North Dakota and U-hauled her all the way home. I was not disappointed by the decision. The first owner bought her new from UralNE and only put 2,500km in his 4 years of ownership, kept her in immaculate condition, and always stored her in a garage.
She is loaded with OEM factory accessories:
- Engine powder-coated black
- 3.91 Final Drive – higher top end speed
- Luggage rack over spare tire
- Jerry can mounted to inside of sidecar – never filled
- Shovel kit mounted to outside of sidecar
- Camo/olive drab cover
- Seat riser – Lifts driver’s seat by 1” for tall riders
- Sidecar windshield kit
- Sidecar tonneau cover – tan canvas
- Factory tool kit
- Sidecar wooden floor slats
- Fuse kit
- Tire pump
Other non-OEM extras:
- Biltwell Gringo helmet – black – S
- Biltwell Gingo helmet – white – S – Both new in 2016 and never dropped
- Nelson Rigg Stormrider rainsuit – L
- Armored riding gloves – L
- 6 ROK luggage straps – tan
I hand-built a beautiful cherry wood luggage rack and sidecar dashboard. The luggage rack bolts onto the standard “newspaper rack” on the rear fender and allows a full sized duffel bag to be mounted transversely, bringing carrying capacity up to 3 duffel bags. I could also double as mobile charcuterie cutting board 🙂
The sidecar dashboard has a 12v receptacle, toggle switch, and power indicator light so that you can charge any accessories. Vital for touring and really adds to the look of the bike. Does not interfere with my knees (6’1”).
The only problems are some very minor chips in the clear coat (NOT paint) in wear areas (inside of sidecar, luggage rack), some flecking of the black paint on the fork near the wheel, and a dime sized ding on the sidecar fender.
